We welcome social players from all across the country to join us for a day of fun games and not-so-serious competition.

Timed to coincide with the Oban Winter Festival, and sponsored by Argyll Estate Agents, make a weekend of it and enjoy all that Oban has to offer.

This tournament is FREE to enter for BadmintonScotland members! You can join when you pay, or head over to BadmintonScotland website to join. We’re working with BadmintonScotland to encourage people to join and take advantage of the Member benefits.

What level player can enter?

Do you play badminton socially in a village or leisure centre club? Perhaps you occasionally hire a court with friends. Never entered a competition before? Then this is the event for you! This tournament is aimed at players who would otherwise feel intimidated entering a ranked competition.

If you have competed at Bronze level or above before – this tournament isn’t for you – sorry, but there are plenty of other Bronze tournaments taking place around the region. Just ask!

If you have played at Copper level and aren’t fussed about gaining ranking points, then please come along!

What is the format of the competition?

The day will consist of doubles badminton matches. Enter as a pair or put ‘Partner Wanted’. Mens /womens / mixed pairs makes no odds: we’ll all play together. We’ll use hybrid or feather shuttles.

The competition will run as a Swiss Ladder tournament, meaning you get a guaranteed number of games: there’s no going home early if you don’t win your first few matches, and as the day progresses you will play against more closely matched opposition in the later rounds.

How much is it to enter?

Entry is FREE for BadmintonScotland members. We are running this tournament to encourage people to join BadmintonScotland. You can join direct before you enter, or we can sign you up and take your membership fee (£25 annual membership for adults) when you sign up.

What time?

Registration and Warmup from 11am. Games start 11:30am. Hall is booked until 5pm

Any other details I should know?

This is a new event format for our club, made possible by the kind support of Argyll Estate Agents  and the Oban Badminton Club Committee. We are at risk of no-shows: please be aware that these cause great inconvenience and are not without cost, so please only enter if you intend on playing, and please give us as much notice of cancellation if you have to withdraw.

How come it is free?

We’re looking to encourage more social play in Argyll, attract people to Oban for the Winter Festival, and encourage people to join BadmintonScotland.

We – Oban Badminton Club – get £5 for each brand new member that affiliates with BadmintonScotland and lists us as their home club.
This alone will not cover the costs of the tournament, and we are grateful to the Oban Badminton Club Committee and Argyll Estate Agents for covering the other costs.
